Contraindications

Contraindications & Cautions

Kambô has no known detrimental side effects when administered responsibly and is generally considered safe. However, there are specific situations where Kambô should not be given, as well as cases where caution is required. Please inform your practitioner about any serious health conditions or concerns before treatment.

Contraindications — treatment cannot be given if you are:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • Pregnant or may be pregnant
  • Breastfeeding a child under 1 year
  • Living with serious heart conditions (pacemaker, valve disease, bypass surgery, enlarged heart)
  • Experiencing extremely low blood pressure controlled by medication
  • History of stroke, aneurysm, or brain bleed
  • Living with serious mental health conditions
  • Taking immune-suppressants for organ transplant
  • Diagnosed with Addison’s disease
  • Diagnosed with Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome
  • Currently experiencing severe epilepsy
  • Recovering from major surgery
  • Currently undergoing chemotherapy
  • History of ruptured oesophagus

Cautions — treatment may require additional care if you:

  • Have taken Bufo 5-MeO-DMT within the past 28 days
  • Are taking immune suppressants for autoimmune disorders
  • Are experiencing active drug or alcohol addiction
  • Have engaged in long-term or water fasting within 7 days before or after Kambô (beyond the required fasting)
  • Have done colonics, enemas, or liver flushes within 3 days before or after Kambô
  • Are menstruating (Kambô may increase flow for 24–36 hours due to vasodilators)
  • Are asthmatic (ensure you have your inhaler with you)
  • Are diabetic (must discuss treatment in advance)

Mental health & medication

You must inform your practitioner if you have ever, or are currently, experiencing a mental health condition (with the exception of depression). In most cases it is safe to continue your usual medications and supplements, but this must always be discussed in advance.
